Quick Answer

Start With Voltage, Type and Pole Configuration

A DC surge protective device should not be selected from the system name alone. Confirm the maximum DC condition, surge protection level and wiring arrangement first.

01

Confirm maximum DC voltage

Match Ucpv or Uc to the actual maximum DC voltage. For PV systems, include maximum string open-circuit voltage and temperature effects.

02

Select Type 2 or Type 1+2

Type 2 supports downstream transient protection. Type 1+2 is considered where lightning-current capability or stronger coordination is required.

03

Confirm 2-pole or 3-pole wiring

Pole count must match the wiring diagram, grounding arrangement and required protection paths—not enclosure width alone.

Voltage Selection

Choose a DC SPD Range for Your System

Use this table as an initial product direction. Final selection should be checked against maximum voltage, wiring mode, installation position, backup protection and document requirements.

Why AC SPDs Cannot Replace DC SPDs

DC systems have different voltage behaviour, fault conditions and protection paths. The SPD must be designed and selected for the actual DC circuit.

  • Confirm the maximum continuous DC voltage.
  • Check positive, negative and PE protection paths.
  • Match the SPD type to the surge design.
  • Coordinate backup protection correctly.
  • Keep connecting conductors short.
01

Do not select only from nominal voltage

PV open-circuit voltage changes with string design and temperature. Provide the maximum project value.

02

Do not confuse pole count with SPD type

A 2P or 3P enclosure does not indicate Type 2 or Type 1+2 performance.

03

Do not ignore backup protection

Internal thermal disconnection does not automatically replace external backup protection.

04

Do not assume one certificate covers every model

Voltage, poles, model suffix and branding can affect document applicability.

Buyer Support

Documents, OEM Review and Project Supply

A B2B DC SPD order normally requires more than a product photo and price. LEEYEE can review the model, documents, branding and supply requirements together.

Model-Specific Documents

Request information needed for technical review, supplier approval or product-line evaluation.

Datasheet and declared electrical parameters
Wiring and configuration information
Dimensions and mounting information
Certificate scope review by model
Product images and quotation details

OEM and Distribution Support

Confirm product configuration and documents before finalising private-label artwork or a distributor range.

Logo, label and model naming review
Remote-contact configuration options
Datasheet, manual and packaging coordination
Sample evaluation before batch production
Project quantity and inspection requirements
Document scope notice: Certification and test-document availability depends on the exact model, voltage, SPD type, pole configuration and branding configuration. Submit your specification for confirmation before formal project use.
FAQ

DC Surge Protective Device Questions

What is the difference between a DC SPD and an AC SPD?

A DC SPD is designed for direct-current circuits, their continuous voltage conditions and required protection paths. A normal AC SPD should not be used as a substitute unless its documentation specifically confirms suitability.

How should I select Ucpv for a solar DC system?

Confirm the maximum PV string open-circuit voltage under project temperature conditions and ensure the selected SPD rating is appropriate for that value and wiring arrangement.

Should I use a 2-pole or 3-pole DC SPD?

The choice depends on protection mode, grounding arrangement and the supplied wiring diagram. Pole count should not be selected only from the number of visible modules.

Can a 1000V DC SPD be used in a 1500V system?

No. Select the correct voltage rating and verify protection mode, Up, pole configuration and document scope.

What information is needed to confirm a DC SPD model?

Send maximum DC voltage, application, installation position, required SPD type, pole configuration, grounding arrangement, backup protection, remote-contact need, quantity and required documents.
